It’s shaping up to be another incredible year on the live music circuit in Leeds.
As well as a huge cohort of acts playing the First Direct Arena and the city’s vast number of more intimate establishments, there are some huge names heading to the city centre to play open air shows in the Millennium Square.
British rock royalty, pop sensations and 80s disco legends are among those playing as part of the Sounds of the City series and other festivals in the heart of Leeds.

7. Suede / Manic Street Preachers

Get ready to relive the magic of the 80s as 80s classical returns to Leeds City Centre for a 5th season on Saturday July 20. Step back in time as the original artists deliver stunning renditions of some of the most iconic songs of the decade alongside the mighty 50-piece Orchestra of Opera North. Headlined by pop legends Bananarama alongside Midge Ure, Johnny Hates Jazz, and Deniece Pearson (Five Star), you’re in for a night of non-stop dancing to a sensational playlist featuring hits including ‘Venus,’ Vienna,’ ‘Shattered Dreams,’ ‘System Addict,’ and many more. The brilliant 80s Classical ensemble of backing vocalists, Bianca Claxton, Nathan James and Adetoun Anibi, will also perform a bonus selection of crowd-pleasing favourites including Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out for a Hero’, The Jackson’s ‘Can You Feel It’ amongst many more. Millennium Square will be transformed into an open-air ‘DiscOasis’ on Saturday 27 July 2024 as the world-renowned Brutus Gold’s Love Train returns for its annual outdoor disco party. So what’s in store? Head honcho and self-proclaimed King of Disco Brutus Gold will be with his superstar cast of characters including the outrageous Lycra-clad Patrick Duvet, Polly Ester, Inger Soll, Willis Hardy Freeman, Chad Valley, Clarence Hamilton Jar, Virginia Slim. Next year’s event will also showcase live performances from the diva from Detroit ‘Carmen Rola’, the sensational high-impact dance troupe ’The Brutus Gold Affair’ as well as mixmaster ‘Diskojak’ who will get the party started. The popular Leeds Ska & Mod Festival is set to return to Millennium Square on Sunday 4 August 2024 as part of the venue’s annual Summer Series.
