THE WAY WE WERE: Kalvin Phillips with the EFL's young player of the month award for November 2016 next to his former Leeds United head coach Garry Monk.
KALVIN PHILLIPS says Leeds United will be building on the foundations built by former boss Garry Monk in a bid to defeat his Sheffield Wednesday side in today’s Championship Yorkshire derby at Elland Road.

Monk steered the Whites to their highest finish in six years as United ended the 2016-17 season in seventh before departing to later take over at Middlesbrough.

Two-and-a-half years on, Monk now brings his eighth-placed Sheffield Wednesday side to Elland Road but Phillips has not forgotten the influence his former manager had in developing United and, also, the midfielder’s own game.
