United hit top spot in the Championship following a fifth win in a row while the Terriers dropped to 18th, three points above the relegation zone.
"I think the boys are hurting a little bit," Pritchard admitted.
"It's a derby and we bring all these fans who pay a lot of money. The whole team wants to deliver but unfortunately it didn't happen.
"Credit to their first goal, it was a great goal.

"It's just difficult to take. You come to Elland Road and lose. We lost at home as well, so they've done the double over us.
"It's not nice but we have to bounce back.
"The supporters are at every game, they come in their numbers and give their all for us.
"All we can say is probably apologise.
"We worked really hard it was just that they were the better team, simple."
