Celtic manager John Deacey wants to make just one more signing before Farsley embark on the quest to win back their place in the Conference at the first attempt, and 29-year-old Campbell fits the bill.

The Middlesbrough-born striker, who spent last season at Halifax, has averaged a goal every three games throughout his career and could be the ideal replacement for the departed Damien Reeves.

Deacey said: "I can honestly say we are only one short now and he could be the last signing we want to make.

"Three or four Conference sides have tried to sign him and a couple from Conference North but he likes what he has seen here so far, he knows we have a decent side and hopefully he is going to sign.

"He has a good pedigree and he could be one of the best signings we ever make as far as the standard he has played at fairly recently is concerned. This guy has played Premier League football and it would be a real coup for us."

Deacey is expecting Sheffield United to bring a fairly strong side to Throstle Nest, kick-off 7.45pm, for what is the Celts' second friendly match. The Farsley manager will be using all of his squad, with another home game against Bradford City following hard on the heels tomorrow night.

But Deacey likes what he has seen so far, with Celtic starting the summer with a 0-0 draw against Lee Sinnott's Port Vale last week.

"We should have won 3-0," he said. "We totally dominated the first half. We had two gilt-edged chances at the start and three decent chances towards the end of the half.

"The second half petered out a bit but both sides made lots of changes. Our keeper didn't have a shot to save all game."

Curtis Aspden, a regular after signing from Hull City midway through last season, started in goal and looks set to keep the number one shirt for the new campaign.

There are rumours Tom Morgan, who he succeeded last season, is following Ryan Crossley to UniBond League Premier Division neighbours Guiseley.

But Deacey said: "Tom Morgan is injured as far as I'm concerned. He has had an operation on his shoulder and an operation on his knee.

"People have told me he has been saying he's going to sign for Guiseley, but it was the first I've heard."

Admission to tonight's match is £5 across the board, with no concessions.
