Farsley Farfield Primary has taken part in a 10-week arts project to produce its own stunning stained glass window.

A group of six 11-year-olds helped stretch lead, cut glass, make templates and sandblast. They also learnt how to etch, solder and grind.
Their handiwork will now go on permanent display in the school's refurbished reception area.

"The whole school thinks the stained glass is great and we are so proud of the children who made it," said learning mentor Loraine Lambert.

"The pupils have put an enormous amount of effort into this and they are justifiably proud of the result."

The pupils who took part in the project were Josephine Bennett, Lucy Hobson, John Lukeman, Bailey Cooke, Amy Sugden and Josie Simpson.

They teamed up with staff at Cockburn College Arts in Beeston, which has specialist equipment as part of its status as an arts school.

The youngsters incorporated elements which they thought best reflected their school, such as the owl from their school logo, computer symbols in reference to Farfield's innovative use of ICT, and the school motto, We Can, We Will.

The design also shows a tree which represents both knowledge and the school's environmental projects including running their own farm and planting more than 200 saplings.
