The best pizza restaurants in the UK

You can't beat a slice of pizza (or two, or three) when it's cooked to perfection. Here are some of our favourite pizza joints across the UK that have perfected their art. Leeds Dough Boys serve at least six varieties of hand stretched pizza (including vegan options) each day, and one slice will inevitably lead to two, or even three. Outside of the city centre (in the quiet suburb of Horsforth) you can tuck into wood oven cooked pizzas at Trattoria Il Forno, or at Ecco Pizzeria, which has branches in both Headingley and Roundhay. Former street food traders Pizza Fella went permanent a while back, and are now serving their signature soft crust pizzas from their Vicar Lane restaurant. Edinburgh One of Edinburgh's oldest pizzerias, Origano in Leith's traditional pizzas are some of the most unique and delicious in the city. Also based in Leith with newer branches across the city, La Favorita specialise in thin and crispy bases, but also have a few filled calzones on offer for anyone in need of real comfort food. Small chain Little Wing offer totally customisable skinny and gluten-free pizzas as well as classic options that will leave you totally satisfied. Opened two years ago, Belfast Woodfired Pizza Company have perfected their unique combination of a relaxed atmosphere and delicious pizza - it's why they're one of the best. Sheffield Cooking up fresh pizzas made the Napoli way, Proove make their dough with the best Italian grade Caputo flour, and slow prove it for a minimum of 20 hours. Bloo 88 is a cosy pub that also happens to serve delicious thin crust pizzas, with classic and more unusual toppings available. (Photo: Shutterstock) Glasgow Paesano Pizza is arguably Glasgow's most popular pizzeria, and for good reason. They were the first to bring authentic and traditional Napoletana pizza to the city, cooked in Naples-built wood fired ovens. While Bella Vita serve an extensive Italian menu, their pizzas are undoubtedly the stars of the show, with every classic accounted for. Relaxed and informal, diners at the cool city centre-based Pizza Punks are invited to completely personalise their pizza, right down to the sauce, cheese and type of crust. Manchester Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza provides an authentic slice of Naples in the heart of Ancoats – Manchester’s Little Italy. Fourteen inch pizzas (made from dough prepared on-site daily) are cooked for just 60 seconds in the wood-fired oven, giving them a light, chewy base. Elsewhere in the city, Honest Crust ferment their sourdough for a minimum of 48 hours, hand stretch it and blast it in their wood-fired oven at 450 degrees for less than 90 seconds for a truly unique crust. Casual local chain Crazy Pedro’s is a late-night New York-style pizza and cocktail bar, offering 16 inch thin crust pizzas with outlandish toppings, or a rotating selection by the slice.
