Ryan Brown and Gemma Randells were about to serve up the main course for fellow contestants in their Bridgewater Place flat, and had put their dinner plates on the hob to warm them. But as the pair, 22 and 23, were being interviewed by the film crew, disaster struck.
“The plates starting exploding - they were smashing to pieces! Every time we went to pick one up it would smash, and we had no other plates,” said Ryan, a radiographer.

The Congolese international was filmed happily agreeing to help Ryan and Gemma out, and supplied them with new crockery to allow their meal to go ahead.
“He saved the day! We knew he lived there and he’s a friend - he’s a good neighbour who never complains about the noise. He even had a football in his hand when he answered the door!”
The couple later returned the dining set to Jordan, who has since moved out to start a loan spell at Charlton Athletic.

“We decided to enter as Gemma is a really good cook, and we like to entertain. It was a really good laugh,” added Ryan.
The episode of Couples Come Dine With Me was broadcast on Wednesday.
