Car insurance costs in the North of England have dropped by 5% in just three months, new data has revealed.

Drivers in York are faced with the biggest savings, as prices fell by £49 (8%) since March, according to the latest car insurance price index by Confused.com (Q2 2020), powered by Willis Towers Watson.

Drivers in Northern England can now expect to pay £700 for their car insurance on average.

The data, based on more than six million quotes per quarter, is the most comprehensive new business price index in the UK.

As well as making the biggest savings, motorists in York pay the least for their car insurance in the region with prices now at £570 on average.

It’s a similar picture across the rest of the UK, with most other regions facing cost savings year-on-year.

Overall, the average UK premium now stands at £770, following a £19 (2%) decrease since 12 months ago. Savings are even more significant across the quarter, as prices drop by £39 (5%) in the past three months, on average.
