Investigation after prisoner dies at HMP Leeds

A prisoner at HMP Leeds has died, according to the prison service.

Darren Pallas, 40, died in the Armley jail on Friday.

A HM Prison Service spokesman said: "As with all deaths in custody, there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

There were nine deaths in custody at the jail during 2018, according to a report by independent watchdog the Independent Monitoring Board.

"Four have been determined as natural causes, two as self-inflicted and the other three are yet to be determined but two of these are apparently from natural causes and the final one is apparently self-inflicted," the report, released in May 2019 said.
