These rescue dogs in Leeds are in desperate need of a permanent, loving home. Can you help them?
Dogs Trust in Leeds has several dogs and puppies and these are the ones that currently need rehoming (all photos from Dogs Trust Leeds):
1. Alfie
Alfie the miniature poodle has unfortunately suffered a lot of upheaval. He may take a little time to settle into a new routine but once he does he will be a fantastic little companion who will not leave your side. Alfie really struggles with being left on his own and will need somebody with him all day. He particularly forms bonds with females so would be better placed in a home with at least one female owner around in a multiple person, adult only household. Alfie will need a home with a secure garden and ideally not lots of stairs as he requires medication for poorly back legs. New owners need to be aware of an ongoing cost and the Dogs Trust vet will be happy to discuss what to expect and the costs involved. He is polite with other dogs when out and may share his home with another quiet, small dog for company. He travels well in the car and is housetrained. He will need to sleep on the bed at night and he loves a good sofa snuggle. Alfie would suit a less active household as he is unable to go for walks.
Five-year-old Bailey is absolutely adorable and has a sweet and playful nature. This Dalmatian can be a little shy of new people but soon comes round. He is lovely to walk and happy around other dogs. He will be best suited to a home with another doggy friend that isn't too bouncy or interactive. Bailey should be fine with young adults aged 16 and over. He is a very active boy who needs lots of exercise. Bailey also loves running but will avoid water at all costs. He is not the best traveler so local walks would be an advantage. He is house trained and used to being up on the sofa for a good snuggle. He will need his owners around all the time until he is ready to start slowly building up to being left for very short periods.
Bails is a sweet little five-year-old Bichon Frise. He is wonderful company, but you must let him get to know you before getting too hands on. He is very shy and can get worried by new people and situations. This means that he needs a very slow settling in period where he will be allowed to come round in his own time. If you take things slowly with him, he will eventually show his true character, which is a very affectionate and playful little dog. He enjoys his training and knows most basic tasks. He is making progress but must be the only pet in his home. Bails needs a very specific home due to his nervousness of unfamiliar people. He is very worried by children and has shown this in his previous home, so he needs an adult only home with no visiting kids. Very few visitors generally and none at all during his settling in period. A busy or noisy location will make him very anxious, so his home needs to be in a peaceful area with immediate access to quiet walking areas where he won't come across too many peop
Five-year-old Copper was found with a large open wound on his back end which was obviously very painful. He is now on the mend and on the look out for a new home. Copper is a shy dog initially and would need a quiet adult only home where he can get to know his new owners and they can get to know him. He will need an enclosed garden to play in and to house train him if needed. Copper is very foodie and so should train up easily. He can be worried around other dogs and will choose to avoid them if he can so will need to be the only pet in the home. Being a lurcher, Copper does have a prey drive and may chase small furies but this is typical of the breed. Once he has settled into his new home Copper should come out of his shell and start to flourish.
Digger is a very bubbly nine-year-old Terrier Cross. He is a really affectionate lad once he knows you. He needs to meet you many times and slowly build that bond, but once it's there he'll snuggle and play with you all day long! Sadly Digger has had little experience of home life and this has left him with a few anxieties. He's very sensitive to noise, so his home MUST be a quiet adult only household in a peaceful area away from busy roads and outdoor noise. He cannot share his home with any other pets but he is sociable around the right dog and will walk nicely together if introduced correctly. He'll need a lot of patience and understanding from his humans but if you are looking for a project that will eventually yield a fun and very smart dog then Digger could be your boy! Digger's new family will need to have a passion for dog training and be willing to work with our training and behaviour team throughout his transition to a new home. He'll need a fully secure garden with a four-foot fence.
Dottie is a gorgeous, vibrant boxer that is coming up to six years old. Dottie is dog social, but she is very worried about unfamiliar people and she needs to follow an introduction plan in order to get to know the new people in her life. Dottie has been rehomed and returned due to her behaviour around people she doesn't know, so because of this, we're looking for experienced dog owners who are looking for a bit of a project! Dottie has been working really hard with the training team and now she is ready to meet her new family and step out into the world. Dottie loves meeting dogs out and about, but she will need to be the only dog in the home. Dottie has got several health problems which she is on medication for, including hypothyroidism. New owners must be aware of ongoing vet bills and the Dog's Trust centre vet will discuss her health issues with you. Dottie loves to play and absolutely adores cuddles and affection from her favourite people. She is looking for an adult only home.
