Torquay United 0
Farsley Celtic 1.
It's advantage Farsley Celtic in the battle to avoid the remaining two relegation places in the Blue Square Premier after John Deacey's men pulled off a stunning victory in Devon.
With Droylsden and Stafford all but relegated, Farsley went above Halifax, Weymouth, Altrincham and Northwich in a mini league of five teams just above them thanks to a crazy own goal at Torquay.

The play-off chasing Gulls were booed at the end by their own supporters, but the Farsley contingent who made the long journey were celebrating wildly after a hard-working display from their team.

A repeat performance against Droylsden at Throstle Nest tomorrow night, and Celtic will have safety firmly within their reach.

John Deacey said: "I was very, pleased with our performance. We soaked up a lot of pressure.

"I thought Craig Bentham was the pick of the bunch, but the central defenders also did very well indeed.

"We seem to do well against the top teams. We have given Aldershot two excellent games and we have beaten Cambridge. We do try to play football and that helps us when we come to places like this.

"It was a great result for us and I thought we deserved it.

"We didn't let Torquay have a shot on goal and it's the first time since the first day of the season that they haven't scored at home."

Deacey made two changes to the team that had beaten Weymouth the week before, bringing in midfielder James Knowles for Roy Stamer, and experienced forward David McNiven for Simeon Bambrook.

Knowles had Farsley's first chance, shooting harmlessly wide from Rory Prendergast's cross before McNiven stunned the home side after 16 minutes with a shot that produced the only goal of the game.

Damien Reeves headed the ball down for McNiven to drive a powerful low shot that hit home keeper

Simon Rayner's right-hand post and then bounced in off the helpless goalkeeper.

At the other end, Curtis Aspden did well to tip a Chris Zebroski shot over his bar in the 27th minute as Torquay pushed for an equaliser.

But the Gulls found the visitors in no mood to give way, with centrebacks George Santos and Amjad Iqbal in outstanding form.

Andy Watson almost put Celtic further in front on the stroke of halftime, but his curling shot was turned round the post by Rayner. Iqbal and Santos both cleared the ball off the line in the 53rd minute as Roscoe Dsane almost got the home side level with an angled shot.

Torquay finally raised the tempo in the last 20 minutes and there was bad news for Celticwhenthe impressive Iqbal needed lengthy treatment for a hamstring injury and was finally
forced to leave the field.

But Celtic held out, with Gulls top scorer Tim Sills heading his side's best chance of the game over the bar from eight yards with 10 minutes left.
