Farsley Celtic will not be resting on their laurels ahead of tonight's home game against Rushden & Diamonds in the Blue Square Premier.
A 2-0 victory at Stafford Rangers at the weekend lifted Celtic two places clear of the drop zone, but the message from boss John Deacey was "the job isn't done yet".

And Celtic are hoping the visit of the former Football League side will attract a few more faces to Throstle Nest tonight – and those supporters can play a part in their survival bid.

Deacey said: "We are nowhere near out of it. It is important we don't get carried away – though there is not much chance of that with Rushden and then Cambridge United coming here in the next two games.

"We have to make sure we keep focused and keep doing what we have been doing. We have got to make sure we are in with a fighting chance at the end of the season. If we are, I will be pleased with that.

"The players are doing their jobs at the moment and the fans can play a part too.

"I thought the fans at Stafford were superb. We took about 100 down there and they out-sung nearly 2,000 home fans.
"We all went over after the game and applauded them for that.

"We have a hardcore of fans but we have two attractive games coming up now against Rushden and Cambridge and it would be nice to get even more support behind us."

Farsley arrived at relegation rivals Stafford to find a party in progress to mark the arrival as manager of former England international Steve Bull.

It included a parade of celebrities before the game, among them Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame, ex-Aston Villa and Liverpool player Stan Collymore and Buster – a real live bull.

Deacey had to request Buster was removed from Farsley's designated area of the pitch for the pre-match warm-up – and he was delighted his players weren't distracted by the side show.

Instead, they totally outplayed the hosts and were rewarded with a Steve Torpey strike and a Dominic Krief penalty easing them to a comfortable 2-0 win.

"What was happening was unbelievable really but I told the players to focus and not pay any attention to what was going on around them and that's what they did," said Deacey. "They were top notch.

"They did a great job, a very professional job and it was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests."

Farsley have now lost just one of their last four games and Deacey's January rebuilding seems to be paying off.

Just three players who started the 1-0 victory over Stafford at Throstle Nest on the opening day of the season were on the pitch at 3pm on Saturday.

Amjad Iqbal and Scott McNiven were at the back, while Damien Reeves partnered Steve Torpey up front.

Iqbal has formed a formidable centre-back pairing with veteran defender Georges Santos in recent games, keeping the duties of new keeper Curtis Aspden to a minimum. In turn, Dominic Krief and Craig Bentham's work in midfield is protecting the entire defence.

Deacey said: "We are more soild now. We have made some good signings and they have settled in very well. Players like Santos, Rory Prendergast, Bentham, Torpey, Aspden and Krief.

"They are all doing a good job for the side, but it is a squad thing and everyone knows what they have to do to get out of this.

"We have got to keep focusing on being solid at the back, and keep doing what we have been doing."
