Farsley Celtic's old boys will have the chance to claim a first team shirt tonight amid a scramble caused by a whole host of New Year arrivals.
Goalkeeper Curtis Aspden, midfielder Scott Gardner and centre-back Georges Santos are the latest recruits at ThrostleNest this month, but all are ineligible for tonight's FA Trophy second-round replay at Blue Square North side Alfreton.

Craig Bentham, who is on loan from Bradford City and striker Steve Torpey can both play as they were signed in time for the original game on January 12, but there will be opportunities for other players who may have been pushed down the pecking order in recent weeks.

And with £5,000 and a home draw against York City – who attracted a season's best crowd of 1,603 to Throstle Nest for their Blue Square Premier fixture against Farsley – awaiting the winners, Celtic will be eager to progress.

Boss John Deacey, who is still hopeful of signing three more players before the transfer window closes, said: "I have got to go back to the old squad tonight because I have a few people out and I am having to read just things.

"But people are playing for places. If they get in it's an opportunity to keep the shirt so it should be an interesting one.

"There is a bit of pressure on us to win because there is a big game waiting. It's a real incentive for us to progress, but it will be a big incentive for Alfreton as well."

Deacey is also without Ryan Serrant, who is cup-tied having played in the competition while on loan at Ossett Town earlier this season and skipper Ryan Crossley, who is injured.

And anymore new arrivals won't be eligible to play, so there is no great urgency to complete the signings of striker David Brown and defender Mark Roberts, who have a few loose ends to tie up at current club Accrington Stanley.

But Deacey will be keen to get them in before the next league game and has also been given permission by Stafford Rangers to talk to David McNiven, twin brother of Celts full-back Scott, whowas a summer target for Farsley.

"We were in for him at the start of the season but Stafford blew us out of the water," said Deacey. "But it seems they arewilling to let him go nowand I will be talking to him."

The outcome of tonight's game will determine when Farsley return to league combat.

If theywin, theywill entertain York in the Trophy on Saturday but a defeat will leave them facing the long trip to Exeter in the Blue Square Premier.

The next scheduled league outing is a daunting home game against tabletoppers Aldershot on Saturday week.

But Celtic will go into that game with confidence high after holding much-fancied Stevenage to a 0-0 draw at Throstle Nest last time out.

The Celts remain in the bottom four despite the result, but have the teams above themwell in sight.

Deacey said: "We should have beaten Stevenage, but that's life and we have to get on with it.

"We are only one point behind Altrincham now with a game in hand and Weymouth got beaten again so we are bringing them back into it.

"I think we are definitely looking like we can get out of it."
