Farsley dominated the second half as they threw everything at Mapplewell but couldn't find a way past the in-form goalkeeper.

The girls started brightly after a team reshuffle saw Bethany Lewis starting as striker and Lucy Donnelly playing in defence alongside Chloe Watson, who was herself moved into midfield for the second half.

The teams seemed evenly matched until midway through the first half when a Mapplewell striker unleashed a fierce shot from well outside the area which gave Vixens keeper Megi Moo no chance.

And Megi was beaten again a couple of minutes later by another thunderbolt from the home side.

The second half was a completely different story as the Vixens had the lions' share of possession and carved out numerous chances.

Katie Leeming was desperately unlucky not to get at least one goal and had several good shots well saved by the Mavericks keeper who also kept out efforts from Dani Horner, Chloe and Rachel Brown.

The Vixens passed the ball around confidently, building from the back
and through midfield. Charlotte Green and Megan Flaherty helped create several chances for the strikers who also managed to get on the end of some fabulous kick-outs by Megi.

Lucy Donnelly ran her socks off in defence and midfield and along with Bethany and Chloe managed to subdue the Mavericks' attack with some
telling tackles in the second half.

The Vixens are now third in the league with just one match to go against Norristhorpe on Thursday evening. The girls then travel to Pontefract Sports & Social Club on Sunday, May 11, for the U-9 Shield Final against Wigton Moor with a 9.30am kick-off.

And the Vixens' fine season - along with that of their sister side, the Farsley Celtic Foxes who have won the U-9 league and reached the U-9 Cup final - has attracted the attention of former Farsley Celtic boss Lee Sinnott.

Sinbad congratulated both sets of players on a "great season" and wished them every success for the future.

Vixens squad: Megi Moo, Chloe Watson, Bethany Lewis, Lucy Donnelly, Katie Leeming, Dani Horner, Megan Flaherty, Charlotte Green, Rachel Brown, Emily Clarke.

Girls-of-the-match: Lucy Donnelly, Katie Leeming, Chloe Watson.

Coaches: Wayne Mennell, Dean Horner, Simon Clarke, Lee Watson.
