Farsley Celtic Vixens U-10s girls suffered semi final heartache after taking a football tournament by storm.
Date: Saturday, June 13
Competition: Tingley Athletic JFC Summer Football Gala 2009, U-10 girls tournament

A well-organised Farsley Celtic Vixens team kept five clean sheets in a row before being sunk by a single goal in the semi-finals.

The Vixens got off to a winning start against Batley Juniors thanks to a second-half goal from Katie Leeming and some fine saves by Megi Moo.

Goalless draws against Mapplewell Mavericks, Lepton Highlanders and Hemsworth Miners left Farsley needing a victory in their final game against Tingley to guarantee a place in the semis.

And they got it with a 2-0 win, Katie hitting her second of the afternoon and the other goal coming off a Tingley defender following a well-struck corner by Dani Horner.

The win left Farsley top of the six-team division and having to face fourth-placed Lepton in the semis.

The girls put in a good performance against the Highlanders, creating a couple of good chances before Lepton went in front midway through the second half.

Farsley pressed forward and nearly forced extra time with a last minute goal but Chloe Watson's high, looping shot from near the halfway line was kept out by the Lepton keeper.

Vixens squad: Megi Moo, Chloe Watson, Bethany Lewis, Lucy Donnelly, Katie Leeming, Dani Horner, Rachel Brown, Chloe Stratton.

Goals: Katie Leeming (2), own goal (1)

Coaches: Dean Horner, Lee Watson
