EMAIL: fydpteam@gmail.comWEBSITE: www.fydp.org.ukOTHER INFORMATION:* The project was set up in 2003 by a group that included local people, professional youth workers and members of the local churches. It was also supported by the children's charity Barnardos.
Values Farsley Youth Development Project takes its inspiration and values from the Christian faith. These values include:
* To love and serve others
* Compassion
* Justice
* Equality
* Respecting the unique worth of every person
* Working with those who find themselves on the margins of community
* Working with hope, believing that our community can change for the better.
We try to put these values into practice by:1: Meeting young people where they are
The first thing we try to do when working with young people is to listen. We don't want to set the agenda ourselves, but instead allow FYDP to reflect and be shaped by the young people.
We want to learn and develop with them, affirming rather than criticising, valuing their story and helping them as they grow and change.
2: Working together
We know we don't have all the answers and we still have a lot to learn.
We don't think that we can sort out the issues facing young people today on our own. We passionately believe that all members of the community, old and young, need to play their part.
We are committed to working with local people and organisations around the shared values of equality, compassion and justice. We hope that by working together we can see Farsley and it's young people reach their full potential.
3: Committing for the long haul
Developing relationships that are built on mutual trust and respect does not happen over night. As a project FYDP is committed to sticking it out with the young people of Farsley.
The work that we do• A Space For You
At FYDP we're very proud of our double decker. We call it The Sub.
Thanks to hard work by young people and adults from Farsley it has been transformed into a great place to hang out. on board you will find a cafe area, lounge, teaching space and games zone.
Every week The Sub can be found parked up in the community. It's a safe place for young people to spend time together. Always on hand are our team of skilled and creative youth worker.
We want The Sub to make a difference in Farsley. What else could we do with it? If you have any ideas for using the bus, please get in touch.
• Bringing People Together
At FYDP we think Farsley is something to be proud of.
We run events that give a chance for all members of the community to celebrate each other and the place they live.
Once a year we put on a community festival to give young and old a space to have fun and learn new skills.
This is where you come in. we're looking for your ideas. You could help shape the next festival. So what do you want to see?
• Age Doesn't Matter
At FYDP we think Farsley would be a better place if young and old talked a bit more.
so four times a year we run activities designed to make this happen. We promise they will be exciting and safe places to get to know other people of all ages.
So far we've had community plays, cinema screenings and storytelling but there is much more to come.
• Support when needed
At FYDP we know that moving on in life can be tricky.
Changing schools or starting to look for a job can be a stressful time. It's at these points we want to give young people a helping hand.
This could be support in writing a CV, learning interview techniques or finding a mentor in the community.
We will listen to young people and together work out the best way to support them in reaching their full potential
If you are interested in finding out more or think you could be a mentor please get in touch.
In everthing that we do we want to make sure we are Listening To You
We want to hear what you've got to say.
FYDP has been set up to support the young people of Farsley, and to help make the community a better place.
But we haven't got all the answers. This can only happen if you tell us what's needed. We Promise that your views will shape the future of the project. So get in touch and let us know what should happen in your area.
