The Council wants to ensure that all young people have access to a Children's Centre and has moved a step closer to that goal, after plans to transform the provision Calverley Parkside were confirmed.

Councillor Andrew Carter (Con, Calverley & Farsley) told Calverley Today: "Children's centres offer top quality childcare and other facilities to the communities they serve, and I am thrilled that we are going to see another one opened at Calverley Parkside. The nursery facilities there at present are somewhat dated. By completely rebuilding them now, we will ensure that the youngsters of Calverley have great nursery provision for the years ahead.

He added: "We recently announced plans for a Children's Centre in Farsley, and those plans are progressing well.

"But we are fully committed to ensuring that every child in Leeds has access to a centre, so when the opportunity arose to build another one, including a new nursery facility, at Parkside Primary we jumped at it.

"This centre will give the children of Calverley the nursery facilities they deserve and will help give them the best possible start in life."

The scheme will cost £300,000 and it is hoped to be completed by October 2009.
